Living through cancer

They had been monitoring her for years, but we never really thought anything of it. Protein levels in the blood. Apparently if it got out of hand it would become a cancerous concern. She’d always been so healthy so full of life, so beautiful. We were on our way back from a trip to Italy – Milan. At the airport we had just disembarked from the train and were walking down a gang way to the passport checking area when she fell. It didn’t seem like anything too serious and she was able to get up and continue walking. She hurt her ribs. At first we thought that with time the pain would subside and all would be well. I think a visit to the doctors resulted in a prescription for ibuprofen. The discomfort never went away and with time it got worse. Coughing, sneezing, laughing was unpleasant.  I’d been many times to her oncology appointments – weighing, quick talk with the doctor. They began talking of the need to consider the possibility of treating the high protein levels in the blood before they began attacking her bones and vital organs. She felt healthy. There was still time to consider the options.

To an English person, it will seem like simplified English, as a skeptical Cambridge friend of mine what Occidental is. The European languages are members of the same family. Their separate existence is a myth. For science, music, sport, etc, Europe uses the same vocabulary. The languages only differ in their grammar, their pronunciation and their most common words. Everyone realizes why a new common language would be desirable: one could refuse to pay expensive translators. To achieve this, it would be necessary to have uniform grammar, pronunciation and more common words. If several languages coalesce, the grammar of the resulting language is more simple and regular than that of the individual languages.
