‘No one sews a patch of un-shrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither to men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No they pour new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved.’
Matthew 9:16-17
We hear the scriptures but are unable to follow its teachings word for word or practice fully any of its stipulated laws. We find ourselves resorting to rejecting it entirely or watering it down to make it palatable. The reason for this shortcoming is that we have long been guilty of forcing the physical flesh into discipline and obedience of the bible in isolation of the assistance of the omnipotent power of the spirit within ourselves.
Jesus predicted a new order of worship, one that would require us to change from within in order for us to be able to receive the bible’s testimony of truth. The New Testament’s message is based on developing an awareness of the presence of the spirit of purity and looking to its guidance in order for the promise of joy, peace and fulfilment to be realised in our lives.
